Le château et la forêt de Fontainebleau

The castle and forest of Fontainebleau

To visit

On the outskirts of the capital, the castle of Fontainebleau of classical, medieval and Renaissance styles, is the high place of French history, the favourite residence of French sovereigns from François I to Napoleon III.
The castle of Fontainebleau and the forest of Fontainebleau are linked because these magnificent places are next to each other.
The forest of Fontainebleau is famous throughout the world because it was a source of inspiration for 19th century artists, in particular the Impressionist painters and those of the Barbizon school, writers, poets and photographers. In the past, the Royal Forest of Fontainebleau was called the Forest of Beer. This former royal hunting ground represents a fabulous natural heritage. Located south of Paris (1 hour), the forest of Fontainebleau has retained all its splendour. It is an exceptional reservoir of biodiversity and offers a wide range of activities (hiking, climbing, horse riding, storytelling, etc.). To be discovered!
